Since moving to California, my family has frequented the farmer’s market a lot. Like, a lot a lot. We absolutely love strolling through and searching for the juiciest peaches and strawberries (among other tasty fruits and veggies). I knew for my baby’s celebration, we just had to do a farmer’s market themed first birthday party.
Because almost everyone who attended was a friend I made through my older son’s preschool class, there were many older (2-5) kids there. I wanted to make sure they had a good time as well, so I hired Lauren from Darling Doodle to bring farmer’s market-themed sensory tables and art projects. Darling Doodle was a HUGE hit, and the tables were busy all morning!
I have to give a quick shoutout to Lauren–she showed up so early to set up, and every single detail was absolutely perfect. She has a studio space at Needles in Los Altos, and does have openings for summer camps!
For desserts, I ordered a variety of cupcakes and other desserts from Talk Sweets To Me–a local, woman-owned, custom sweet shop. This is my second time ordering from her (and she has also done several of my friend’s kid’s parties) and she has knocked it out of the park every time.
I told her that it was a farmer’s market themed first birthday party, and she took the theme and ran with it! Vanessa is so easy to work with and her treats are as delicious as they are beautiful! I can’t recommend her enough.
For the “Aviv’s First Farmer’s Market” sign, I made a design on Canva and then used a projector to trace the design onto kraft paper. Then I painted it with acrylic paint! It was so fun and easy and really added a personal touch to the party. I also painted the vegetable pictures onto individual watercolor papers and then hot glued them onto the gingham ribbon to make the bunting shown above.
For baby’s smash cake, I used this recipe from Yummy Toddler Food. He loved it (and honestly I did too)!
Huge thank you to Taryn Beller Photography, who I am lucky enough to call my best friend and who used my camera to capture these shots so I could enjoy the party. T, I don’t deserve you!
I had the best time taking Los Altos High School Graduation Portraits with this beautiful senior! She grew up in the area, and we decided to do her senior portrait session at Foothills Nature Preserve in Palo Alto. This is one of my favorite locations to take photo sessions at because of the vast variety […]
I’ve been there–when you have a newborn baby (or young children in general!), sometimes you are just dying to get out of the house. We are so lucky to live in an area that has good weather so much of the time, and there is no shortage of stroller-friendly hikes near Palo Alto. As a […]
It’s been a while since I’ve used Tinder (long story short: I married my best friend), but I did use it and other apps like it back in my dating years. We all know the trope of the photo of “the guy holding a giant fish”… no more of those, please! So many people have […]
As an avid reader myself, I have a vested interest in making sure my children have a love of books. And my husband knows that we can’t walk by a bookstore without me at least popping in for 5 minutes an hour. Along with my boys, I spend a lot of time looking up local […]

As a mom of an 11mo, I am always looking for drop-in play spaces around Palo Alto and the surrounding areas. It’s surprisingly hard to find places that offer playtime on a whim! Through some research (aka consulting my mom friends), I found the below drop-in play spaces for families. Be sure to check each […]
